  • What is one important lesson/moral of this story? How do we see this in the film? What is one important lesson/moral of this story? How do we see this in the film?
It’s okay to step out of your comfort zone, it’s okay to be different. Everyone’s unique in their own way.
  • What is one event we see in the film that changes Charlie’s life forever? Why did you pick this event as a significant turning point for him?
The tunnel scene with Patrick and Sam, it was the moment he realized he really wasn’t alone and that in that moment he felt he belonged.
  • Until the very end of the film, Charlie thought his Aunt Helen was one of his favourite people in the world. Why would he feel something like that, and why doesn’t he remember what she did to him?
She was the only one that he felt listened to him, she understood him. He felt guilty about her death and tried to forget. Was so traumatised that his brain tried to make him forget what happened and blurred it out from his memory.
  • Stephen Chbosky (author/director) said he wanted to present a story in which there were no bad characters. Was he successful? Were there any bad characters? Justify your answer.
Yes there were bad characters. Yes multiple, the film showed us different types of abuse. Physical, Mental and sexual.
  • The benefits of inclusivity
  • The importance of participating in life
  • The importance of love, friendship and family
Can you recall a specific scene or scenes which helped illustrate each of the three themes above?

When charlie gets invited to the party after the dance, Charlie putting his hand up in class for the first time, When Charlies brother and sister sit at the hospital with him and play cards.

  1. Hey Paige,
It is Miss Morgan here, I am a teacher in the Uru Manuka Cluster. I really enjoyed watching the movie Perks of a Wallflower. I think that the lesson/moral of the story is a nice one, people should be reminded that they are unique. A tip to help you when you are copy and pasting from a doc is to paste using control shift v. That way you don't get the long over run sentences across your blog, which make it hard to read what you have written. Who would you recommend this movie to? Are there any that you have watched that have a similar message?
Look forward to hearing from you,
    Miss Morgan
